With
the cold weather gradually setting in you want to make sure you cosy up your
home atmosphere. Colours play an important role in brightening up any room and
is a sure-fire way to banish the winter doldrums as well!
Don’t
get scared, you don’t have to change the whole décor but even few bits and bobs
make a big difference to a room. A rug here and a few candles there change the
feel of the room.
So
here goes…
1. Decorate with Warm Colours
To give an instantly cosy and warm feel to the
room you can use fire-hued tones gold, orange, terra-cotta, and red. If those
are too intense for you then even softer tones of yellow, gold, brick, and rust
will have a similar warming effect.

2. Add Summer Glow
No need for a blazing fireplaces if
you don’t have/want one but just set candles on the coffee/side tables. The flickering
light reflects intimacy and warmth. You can also use soft glow lamps instead of
lighting a fire and can appreciate warmth it spreads.

3. Your Best Throw
I usually bring out my cosy knit
throws over chairs and sofas. Choose lovely colours and patterns and are useful
to snuggle around chilly knees and feet. Throws can be a wonderful addition to
bedrooms.
4. Rugs Galore
Bare floors may be great for summer,
but they are downright uninviting in winter so switch to area rugs to give toes
a warmer feel underfoot.

5. Keep the Chill Out
Is your favourite recliner next to a
window? Maybe you can move the chair to a warmer spot in the room and add
insulations to your window or even thicker curtains.
Pull out cosy fleece pillows in warm
colours colour coordinate with your throws or rugs. Even these small touches
will make a room feel season-appropriate for winter.
7. Warming with Activities
Dig out your family photo albums,
write letters, or play Monopoly on the warm rug. Roast marshmallows or pop popcorn
as these can be great memory-makers that the entire family can enjoy.
8. Experience Summer Warmth
Fill your home with the warm scents
of spices. Candles, food, and scented sprays are a few of the many alternatives
for adding soothing scents to your space.
